The 2024 Awards

The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and CPA Practice Advisor announced the recipients of the 13th Annual Most Powerful Women in Accounting Awards. Winners were revealed on June 4, 2024, during the AICPA ENGAGE conference at the Aria Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

Nomination and Judging

Nominees were submitted by peers and evaluated by an independent judging panel. Selection criteria emphasized demonstrated leadership, inclusivity, and exceptional contributions to the accounting profession. While the awards recognize global leaders, most 2024 honorees focus on the U.S. market.

Selection Criteria

Honorees were evaluated against four standards:

  1. Driving a culture of excellence, innovation, and inclusion
  2. Providing impactful leadership that contributes to their organization's success
  3. Mentoring, sponsoring, and serving as a role model for others in the industry
  4. Influential work with a positive impact on the accounting profession broadly

The Message

Gail Perry, CPA, Editor-in-Chief of CPA Practice Advisor, highlighted the importance of amplifying diverse voices and showcasing the achievements of women in accounting as a path to developing future leaders.

The 2024 Honorees

Twenty-five women received the 2024 award, including Lara Abrash, Julie Boland, Samantha Bowling, Danielle Supkis Cheek, Amy Vetter, and Jennifer Wilson, among others.

Danielle Supkis Cheek, VP Head of Analytics and AI at Caseware, used the recognition to emphasize the compounding role of innovation, mentorship, and community in advancing female accountants across the profession.

Implications

For firm leadership tracking industry-wide talent dynamics, the honoree list is a useful map of rising influence across Big Four, mid-market firms, tech platforms, and independent advisors. Firms serious about diverse leadership pipelines can learn from the approaches each honoree's organization has taken.
